That could very well be why I haven't run into this - I tend to use my older one more.

ilikeme posted : Apple has gone cheap on their cables the past few years. The iPod/iPhone cables had strain reliefs on the ends until the iPhone 3G came out. The newer ones get frayed after a few months/years.
