And I've seen what happened when one simply assumes that the distribution breakers are always accurately labeled before nipping off the 220v drop-wiring to a heavy motor. To prove it, I've still got the insulated side-cutter pliers with the 1/4-inch hole burned through their blades that resulted from the "big blue flash". Misplacing one's confidence can be as dangerous (if not more so) as stupidity.

Human nature.

First you have to be aware of the potential for problems. Too many people rely on the "expertise" of others, often their buddy "the expert" or a saleskid at the store.

Then you have to be able to admit you don't know it all, and there are very smart people on the other side working constantly. You can be safe today and not so safe tomorrow.

Security is a process of adapting, not a cookbook item where you set 3 programs and you're done.

You're obviously not trying hard enough.

Only a small percentage of keygens, cracked software, and P2P downloads are actually malware infected. Generally speaking, if you stick to popular downloads on well known sites, chances of acquiring malware are not anywhere near as high as you might think, actually relatively low.

As for porn sites being a good place to get malware, not really.

It's when you wander off to obscure/fishy websites and downloads that things start happening. Oh, and downloading/running fishy email attachments from spam, running outdated browser with outdated java and flash, etc.

Can you really?

Some malware is designed to stay hidden and undetected, silently sending your personal information away over the internet, or making your computer a zombie as part of a botnet.

It is those I'd be more worried about, than the blatantly obvious malwares which are usually nothing more than an inconvenience.

I am not trying to sell anything here, in fact only MBAM is one time fee, the rest is free. (and I bought MBAM because most of AV vendors will recommend "are you infected?run MBAM)

Let's don't forget that the AV industry is based on profit; they have to sell their products to make money and you will buy if you are scared.

Years ago, the updates were weekly, later on daily, after that few times a day, hourly, every 15 min and now in the cloud.

One AV is no longer enough, you will be advised to install 2 (100% compatible!) , somebody recommended 2 cloud AV's!!!!

Life out there is not that scary; while here on forums the density of computer geeks per square bit is huge, in real life the consumer doesn't want to run complicated combinations, to submit logs or to start in safemode.

I reached this combination (MSE4+MBAM+PCTools Firewall Plus +UAC max) after a considerable amount of time, and I run it on 3 pc's; very light, never had to do anything on the other pc's.

Just a real life situation.

It isn't difficult to do the things you list, but it's not totally relevant. Most users don't "secure" their PC -- that's the computer's job.

I do have an image, just in case.

So, I'm asking , why is so difficult to secure a PC?
