Bogus and you know it! Time Warner issues numerous modems and EMTA's, but then only allows 2 "compatible" ones. DOCSIS is a standard.

Try using a SB 6120 modem with firmware 1.1.8 (first retail release) or earlier on TWC, Comcast, Cox or Charter. You'll find in most areas that DOCSIS 3 standard compliant modem won't even sync... since it's no longer compatible. A variety of other "standard compliant" modems have interesting sync reliability, speed, security, and other issues.

I can see why any ISP would want to limit the variety of new equipment attached to their network when the standard is still in development.

If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes.
