So if this went into effect in 3/2007, 7 years from that date would be 3/2014. Any detectors manufactured under UL 2034 should have 18 months "life" left.

But this aside, for the price of a detector VS your safety, spend the $40.00 -- The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

I have a unit that's EOL manufactured in 2004. It started chirping this year so I know Kidde started adding that feature in 2004 at least to some units.
