[optical] Lenovo T410s - Optical Drive

I have a Lenovo T410s and the optical drive no longer works. Do I need to get a replacement from Lenovo or will any Slim type drive work?

Thanks.

AFAIK optical drives on the T series are modular Ultrabay (9.5 mm tall) devices. If you buy aftermarket, you'll need to remove the Ultrabay adapter from the existing drive and install it on the new drive. The bezel will likely be a problem as the new drive will not come with one that fits the Ultrabay, and unless you buy the same make and model you most probably cannot reuse the one from your existing drive.

Ultrabay optical drives from Lenovo are ~$100 which is not too bad for the guaranteed compatibility.
