Range questions

Anyone here into repair of appliances?

We have a range and are trying to turn on the self-cleaning mode but the thing simply refuses to. We close the oven door, set the latch to the right and then turn the oven control to self cleaning and the little self cleaning light sits there and flashes, and the interior does not heat up.

My guess is there is some kind of problem with the latch mechanism.

Find the instruction's manual.
Maybe there's something more to do... like press start or whatever.

At least it didn't lock you out!

My range doesn't have a latch, but when it goes in auto-clean mode, it locks the door and you can't stop it!

Yeah I checked the manual and it said to do exactly what I did, but also had a side note as to how to shorten or lengthen the cycle or also delay the cycle for later time.

Maybe you need to select the cycle lenght before it starts.

No you don't have to.

I think I know what it is. I did some reading and suspect that the actuator that locks the door once it is latched is not functional anymore.

Maybe I am misunderstanding it but that's what I suspect.

Or the sensor that detects if the door is closed.
You'll have to start looking into the wiring diagram of that stove, or go clean it by HAND!!!! :O

Tried starting the self-clean and then open and reclose the door?
Unplugging replugging it?
Or wait for an hour.

Yeah I'm going to check the sensor with my meter to eliminate that.

Serious corrosion on the leads to the switch.

Anyone have an idea on how to get it so I can remove it without ripping the connector off of the wiring?

I'd replace those connectors too. There will not be any effecitve way to clean them up. Just easier to crimp on new ones.

They would have the switch. The connectors look to be standard 1/4" spade plugs. Straight plugs are common, the right angle ones are a bit less popular.

I picked up several assortments of crimp on connectors. Usually an assortment is cheaper than buying just one type. Most assortments have a few of the right angle connectors.

Also, if you have a standard analog clock, make sure that you set the "stop" time.

Just buy some damn oven cleaner and spend 30mins cleaning the thing out rather than--

1-wasting a bunch of energy heating the oven to 500+ degrees
2-filling the house with stank ass smoke from burning off all the oven leavins
3-possibly burning a heating element like my mom's oven did the 2nd time she ran the cleaning mode

self cleanin is stupid
