Not saying that some manufactures did not adopt this standard before it became official.

But this aside, for the price of a detector VS your safety, spend the $40.00

I have a unit that's EOL manufactured in 2004. It started chirping this year so I know Kidde started adding that feature in 2004 at least to some units.
