 | [DSL] 25/10 or 15/10 (10mb upload) plans? Are there any plans to offer 15/10 on DSL? The 1mb is quite limited... I'd like to be able to run a Slingbox but it requires 2mb minimum for HD, 5mbps is average - right now it can only be done on Bell's 15/10 or 25/10 packages (FTTN) but I'd probably blow past their cap!
I know it's probably not doable but I'd rather have equal up/down like 10/10 than 25/10 or 38/10 or whatever! |

 | reply to videonerd Hah.. I'm an idiot asking about 25/10, I meant 15/10. With 25/10+modem+dryloop it's more expensive than Bell except for a much larger cap.
... which got me thinking about cable.... best is 28/1?! yesh. Rogers' new plans has uploads staggered, though to get to 10mbps it's $123/mth.
(FWIW, Rogers just updated their Ultimate Fiber plan for 250/250 with a cap you can blow through in less than an hour. heh.) |

 | reply to videonerd I don't know what Teksavvy pays but the difference as far as Bell is concerned is $10/month between 15/10 and 25/10. That's $120/yr. Not "small" if you ask me especially if I don't really care about the extra 10mb.
Too bad it can't be a la carte, the individual pays for whatever speed they want up/down. |

Rogers' new cable plans will be rolling out for TekSavvy soon. Based on the past couple upgrades I'd guess January is when it will happen. Generally they're a little faster but they won't want to make any network changes around the holidays. So TekSavvy's 28/1 will be 35/3 fairly soon. TekSavvy doesn't have access to the higher speed tiers yet.
EDIT: Looks like Rogers is trying to screw around and it's going to the CRTC, may be a little later than January but it will happen.

Too bad it can't be a la carte, the individual pays for whatever speed they want up/down. The difference is about $1/month I believe in what TekSavvy would pay Bell. Bandwidth costs are on top of that but given the caps are the same you'd be looking at a $3/month difference I'm guessing. The numbers are approximations but that's TekSavvy's stated reason for not offering 15/10. -- Taylor Byrnes |

Well there's alot less Gb with Bell.
Also for Bell is 50Gb less with 15/10 compared to 125Gb... a bit normal is cost less. Well either way... Bell price are not really good. |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:20 | reply to videonerd 25/10 and 15/10 are even less than $1 apart on the tariff level. If I'm not mistaken, they're the same price in fact.
The only difference in price between any of the speeds comes from the UBB cost that Bell applies, which is something like $24 per megabit, if memory serves. When you aggregate a lot of customers, that works out to be charged on something roughly based as a multiplier of the average usage. An ISP probably has to pay something like double the average, plus some percentage of headroom since they don't want to max out the connections Bell forces them to pay for. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org |

 | reply to videonerd 15/10 is much cheaper with Bell than with a wholesale tariff. Complain to the CRTC. |

 | reply to videonerd Wow. ... and that's all I have to say about that!
Cable up isn't any better... just noticed that Rogers updated all their tiers with staggered upload speeds. Hopefully Teksavvy gets them in 2013.... |
