Can anyone help. I am trying to buy a mac with songwriting/recording software. Its for a gift but i dont know which mac to buy and what software and how you get the software. I have been recommended Logic is that good? What mac does that run on and where is the best place to but the mac laptop and software. Thanks

Garageband is really simple to use and fairly robust depending on exactly what you're wanting to do. It's part of the iLife suite which I believe is included in all MAC's these days.

Logic is a great program but it's for an intermediate to expert user in my opinion.

I agree with Mastr Blastr, Garageband is already included and is very robust. I use it when I want to song write and record for a hobby. If the person you're buying the laptop for is serious about music, i'd let them choose the recording software. They may want Pro Tools in place of Logic.
