Exp: IDE ----- adapter with controller chip ------ SATA And that chip in it needs power. That's what the 4 pin is for in this case.

FizzyMyNizzy join:2004-05-29 New York, NY kudos:1	Yes, SATA data cable + 4 pin power to that adapter. The IDE harddrive will have the adapter plug in, and also need to have 4 pin power plug in as well.
