Plugged my computer into my TV: good for ALMOST everything else (always use it).
The one item you WILL lose by cutting the cord is live sports.
The software I use to play videos is Zoom player (»inmatrix.com) with VLC Media Player as a backup (»videolan.org). I don't use "media center" software or gadgets since I know my way around a computer.
