Re: Better games in 2013 hopefully???

Sad fact about PC games is we are a dying breed as the producers of games want the biggest bang for the buck. I think Gamespot showed that PC games are pirated about 75%+ of the time while consoles are less then 25% since people need to first hack their console. Im a PC guy and I just hope Im wrong but the facts atm say otherwise...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't pc gaming on the rise? I recall reading a few articles that stated it grew roughly 15% in 2011 from 2010.

I wouldn't trust what gamespot says, its dang near impossible to track how many games are pirated, it could be far more than 75% it could be less. Also what does that even mean? 75% of copies of games on pcs are pirated, and only 25% are bought? Valve doesn't release steam's sale figures so thats nigh impossible to measure. Same for piracy on consoles, how is that even measured?

Plus most indie devs focus on the pc primarily, at least at the start. Not to mention all those kickstarter games that should be out in 2014.

Not on stuff related to the topic, I don't really care if this year was "bad". I just got in to pc gaming really big this year so I've got lots of catching up and older gems to play.

I honestly don't know how many games are pirated. I think it would be less thatn 75%. Most people I know that are PC gamers are not pirating games. Pirated games just don't play the same and have annoying bugs.

It's pretty deceptive to be throwing percentages around, and they can be incredibly misleading. For instance, did you mean...

• 75% of all current titles are pirated at least once
• 75% of of individual copies being played right now are pirated?

I would posit the only games that are NOT widely hacked and distributed are games like League and WoW that require you to log in online. Even so, you could set up a private server, but I am betting the number of people playing a hacked version of WoW pales in comparison to the number of people playing hacked versions of Crysis, COD, or Assassin's Creed.

You and I AM See Profile bring up some good points about numbers, I'd like add that piracy in the gaming market has largely been addressed by the market, unlike in other entertainment industries.

I think most people do pirate some games, but the same people that pirate some games probably end up buying them at a discount on Steam or whatever when it comes up too.

Gaming piracy is not the same beast that affect other industries by a long shot.

I'd honestly been surprised if every game hasn't been pirated at least once.

Ya know save for free ones/free to play ones and monthly subscription ones that cant really be pirated.

The latest and newest game that i played before was Far Cry 2 and that game has no protection for its SP (singleplayer) mode. But i guess alot of them have this issue (the older types)

I don't much play free to play games since there is litterly only one game that i can play and its offline, pretty cool game. I can try out the others that require connection but it would be a waist of bandwidth cause my ping jumps to 1700ms or so when gaming or the game could fail to launching when connecting to its gaming server, satellite providers are not meant for gaming at all but its all we got here in the country and we cannot do anything about that.

Right now i am on a DL (download) cap and there is the free time, speed is strictly limited to 245kb/s and only have 5 hours each morning to get dl-s done so if i were to start dl-ing a free to play game that is say 30 GB it would take me 2 weeks or 1 week and a half to get it finaly done.

Hughes Network Systems

A wholly owned subsidiary, Hughes Network Systems is a provider of broadband satellite network products for businesses and consumers. Headquartered outside Washington, D.C., in Germantown, Maryland, USA, it maintains sales and support offices worldwide and employs approximately 1,500 people, in engineering, operations, marketing, sales and support. It also operates manufacturing facilities in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It first opened its doors in 1971 as a division of Hughes Aircraft's GM-merged subsidiary Hughes Electronics, which expanded in 1980 with the purchase of M/A-COM Telecommunications. In January 2003, the company was sold to SkyTerra Communications.

HughesNet

HughesNet is the brand under which Hughes Network Systems provides its one-way and two-way satellite Internet access technology and service in United States and Europe. HughesNet provides satellite internet access across the contiguous United States in areas with a clear view of the southern sky. Originally branded as DirecPC and later DirecWay, it originally marketed to business customers as a side venture to the consumer product DirecTV. In October 1996, operating as an independent entity, Hughes Communications expanded into the consumer market, primarily targeting "work-at-home consumers who might otherwise use ISDN".[3][4] It officially changed its name on March 27, 2006. HughesNet services are sold directly throughout North America, and in Brazil, Europe, and India from authorized service providers and resellers. HughesNet offers downstream rates between 1Mbit/s and 2Mbit/s, although many customers report significantly lower speeds.[5]

HughesNet pricing plans include daily data allowances which, when reached or exceeded, will result in data transfer speed reductions to speeds comparable to dial-up. They do not have monthly data restrictions, but typical daily data allowances are at or below 500 MB. The basic package traditionally comes with 250 MB per 24 hour period, with larger packages available at a significantly higher rate. Exceeding data allowances causes your speed to be capped at a reduced rate until the next day. Unlike other services they have an unlimited "Download Zone" from 2-7 AM EST everyday.[6] With the use of a download manager it is possible to take full advantage of this window for software updates, game downloads, etc.

On July 5th, 2012 EchoStar launched their ECHOSTAR XVII satellite[7]. This satellite provided 100Gbps of capacity to their HughesNet product. In Q4 of 2012 HughesNet began offering their Gen4 product. This product offers two way satellite internet speeds of up to 15Mbps and data allowances up to 40Gb. [8].

Actual costs and/or data plans and daily limits may change and are updated on their website.

If there was ever a better candidate for a console rather than pc gamer than you, I haven't met him.
