[BC] old 2wire router

Does anyone know if it is possible to use my old otherwise useless router on a cable internet service? the modem was fried by a power surge and doesn't work on my telus high speed anymore. My parents have cable and an old ethernet router (no wifi). The router seems to work fine however it's a 2wire 2700hg-e firmware version4. if it is possible is it easy to do? The router used to work well for me better than my siemens 567 that I'm using now.

thanks! It sounds like the modem has to be disabled in the settings menu?

It can work as a router. But why would you use it?

You'd need the root login for it to toggle it to router mode. Pain.
As well, it has wireless b/g only. Just go buy a basic router with b/g/n for like $30.
