[HSI] Is Charter testing faster speeds? This morning I ran a speed test and it's faster than usual. I was wondering if charter was doing speed upgrades. Here is the test I just ran. I'm on the ultra100 plan.

Its POWERBOOST, since speedtest only last for a short duration, the test is in that stage when you run it. i'm on the 30/4. I get 66mbps. So, don't get excited, its not an upgrade! I was hoping. I ran it again and got 108 down so you're probably right. I was under the impression that the ultra100 didn't use powerboost though. |

Thank you. I just ran a test at testmy.net and received the results below. |
|

None of those short tests are any good.
The only consistent result I get is by starting several large downloads simultaneously then adding the speeds or monitoring it in my firewall/router. |

I thought PowerBoost went away for residential?
Is it making a come back now? |
|
|
Highly doubt it. Something may be in the works. |

Its not powerboost. The ultra service tier does not use it. If you don't believe me. Ask Charter and they will tell you the same. Only the other tiers use it. I still would like to see better upload speeds instead and bonding for the upload. |

At a general level, unless they push a new config file to the modem the modem only does whatever the config file allows or the pipe can feed, whichever is lower.
So, if you're consistently faster than before and haven't subscribed to a faster tier, most likely I think is perhaps some capacity has been added to your area/congestion relieved. |

Not to mention the speed tests on speedtest.net are greatly affected by what site you are choosing. For instance, running multiple speedtests from all the locations in my state and the next nearest big city you get huge variations. A couple sites will never go above 40mb, one will give me the same results as speedtest.charter.com and the rest will be between 40 and whatever I'm getting at speedtest.charter.com at that time. |

[att=1] Ill reset my modem and run some tests tonight to see if i see anything similar. Im on ultra100 and everything here runs off of st.louis so if they are doing something i would think id see it too. |

The only consistent result I get is by starting several large downloads simultaneously then adding the speeds or monitoring it in my firewall/router. Totally agree that is the BEST way to test, but most people just want a quick check like any speed test site does. That testmy.net site is about as inaccurate most of the time as any flash test also. Totally depends on time of day and what browser you're using there. |

I don't know about charter, but the DOCSIS 3.1 spec is showing a new modulation called 4096QAM which will enable cable providers to deliver higher speeds using existing plant. Who said coax was dead... » www.multichannel.com/cab ··· s/139883 |
