Dogg posted : Not an indication of anything aside from the fact that they (Charter) and most other ISPs are doing away with analog to free up bandwidth. With the addition of all the HD channels, they need all the bandwidth that they can get to increase HD picture quality.
--
Google is your Friend

whoaru99 posted : Dunno about the filtering; there is no "special" splitter in my setup in that regard.

In my setup I have a two-way with one leg feeding the modem and the second leg feeding another two-way for my two TVs.

Same thing could be accomplished by using the -3.5dB tap of an unbalanced three-way.

Or, you could use a three way balanced splitter that I think is something like -5.5dB on each port.

Frankly, given the wide window in which this stuff works, it's unlikely to matter at all unless your signal level coming in is borderline.

[HSI] Installation question

wizkid6 posted : When doing a self install, would I have to have a tech come out and install one of those special low loss splitters for the modem? With three coax outputs and one input, with the lowest loss leg usually color coded to indicate that it's for the cable modem. And that serves double duty as filtering out the analog channels?

Currently the coax by the computer is on the last leg of the splitter. Should it be moved to the first leg?

And an FYI: Charter's going all-digital with only the locals unencrypted November 16th in the Auburn, AL market. Found that out from a charter rep. Could this be a predecessor to upstream channel bonding?
