Re: Firefall public beta weekend I got it figured out. The damn game needed to be patched.
The game patch option only came up when I ran the launcher, not the client application |

In fact I enjoyed it so much I ponied up for the founder's club. I have some screenies I'll post later tonight (if I remember). I'm still figuring it out but love the gameplay and upgrade trees. |

I have seen reports in chat that they will not be wiping the beta characters on launch. If so that's a hell of a head start. I'm enjoying the dreadnaught so far although I've barely started progressing.
VioletVenom , how often do they hand out those beta keys like the one you gave me? |
|
VioletVenomLets go GatorsPremium join:2002-01-02 Gainesville, FL | What I've seen in their forums is that they won't be wiping exp. Makes no mention of resources. I would hope anything bought with red beans would be immune to any wipe.
I'm not sure if they give out more invites to founders or not. I've still got a couple left if you were wanting to hand some out. |

So is questing disabled after the Trans Hub missions? You guys just thumping like bosses to gain xp? I think it is, I'm just making sure I'm not part of a beta bug here, Google seems somewhat contradictory on this point. |

| reply to Krisnatharok I have had very little time for Firefall, but when I have had time this is my impression.
What is the WoW affect?
The WoW affect, is that after playing WoW, when you play other games you expect the game to be a certain way, and when it's not, you think the game is bad.
I suffered the WoW affect when I first started playing GW2. But once I got over that hump, now I love GW2 more than I ever loved WoW.
But what's happening now?
Now I am suffering the GW2 affect when I play Firefall. When I play Firefall, the open world feels dead, even though it is pretty. It just feels cold. Why? Because after playing GW2 and it's dynamic vibrant world, Firefall open world feels lack luster!
I need to play Firefall more to make a real determination if I like it or not. But at this point, when I play Firefall, it just makes me itch more to go back to Tyria! |

I don't think they are releasing for quite a while. Any impressions you make now will need to be subject to change. |

| Combat in Firefall is TIGHT... just as TIGHT as WoW, which is AWESOME.
The game is supposed to become an eSport, and the tightness would be required for that.
i didn't like GW2 in beta... and if I stayed with that impression I would of never played it.
I'll give Firefall more time to grow on me! it has so much potential! |

VioletVenomLets go GatorsPremium join:2002-01-02 Gainesville, FL 1 edit | reply to bionicRod Questing is quite limited. I got to a point after Trans Hub where it sends you to Sin Towers. It appears broken to me as there is no object to interact with at the quest coordinate. There is actually a lot to do if one stops thinking of the game linearly and more sand box like.
I explored the world for a while, seeing what areas/heights I could get to. Raced from Copa to Sunken Harbor countless times, trying to better my time. Searched for uber thumper sites, my timing always seems bad though. Have yet to find the fat motherload. Chosen tower farming for exp. Never cap the tower, just let the chosen keep respawning and keel'dem. Wash, rinse, repeat. Lately I've been farming in what's been coined exp valley. Sunken Harbor 2 tower area. Last night we had 4 advanced towers going, talk about monster spawn! It was like Dune, " Usul, we have wormsign the likes of which even God has never seen."
I personally quit playing WOW quite a few years ago. I know what you speak of though. I've become very picky with my gaming. Partly maybe because I don't have as much time to devote to it now days. Most games I don't even bother finishing.
While I do consider firefall an MMO, it doesn't fall into the same button mashing genre of WOW for me. I think ff has a lot of potential and hope the games surpasses that. |

I enjoyed the game until I found out that:
Thumping is the way to grind and that can get old real fast. Going from Engineer 1 to Engineer 2 causes you to lose all your old Engineer 1 traits, so you're actually handicapped until you're deep into the Eng2 tree for little benefit.
I would really like some sort of "push the line back" game where an entire zone was invaded, rather than just flying around to certain spots and just clearing shit out, moving on to another, re-capturing shit that you just cleared out, etc.
If I went into a fully bug-infested zone and worked with the community to clear it out, set up a base, clear forward, etc., it would be bad ass. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

I'll try it again down the road after it's been optimized a little better and maybe some video drivers have been released.
It ran terrible in certain areas. |
