Different strokes for different...
You had said your "phone service goes down at least once a month here for years."
Then you say the cable company in your area is "Twice as fast and cheaper. No extra for callerid, call waiting, inside wire, etc - and the experience was much better than the usual attitude of indifference I'm used to getting from the local telco folks."
Personally, the combination of all those factors would lead me to drop Centurylink for the service that is twice as fast, cheaper and apparently more dependable.
