Re: BB10 launches Jan 30 said by BigSensFan:cool new video at this link of the bb10 in action (different language but with subtitles)
also at the end of the article they say that the US pricing on a 2 year term will be $149 (no Canadian pricing yet)
»mobilesyrup.com/2013/01/21/new-b···sistant/ That video made me want a Blackberry again.
Sure seems like a winner.
I have to wonder though, if the new BB 10 OS is going to compress data as much as the current BB's do. -- I'm a man, but I can change. If I have to. I guess.

I would expect as much since the phone is communicating the same data as before, you're just changing the interface. The only recent addition that I've seen is in regards to voice chats and voice notes. |

|
 | For enterprise communications I wonder the same, since new BES phones are connecting to ActiveSync rather than BES. |

RiamenPremium join:2002-11-04 Calgary | The ActiveSync protocol does allow for compression. Current iPhones and Android phones with Ice Cream Sandwich or later support it.
RIM was able to get good compression with their phones because all data to and from current Blackberries goes through their NOC. Problem with that system is it's a single point of failure as evidenced by recent outages affecting millions of Blackberry users all at once.
It's interesting that Blackberry 10 will use ActiveSync and not BES, I guess Microsoft won that battle. |

I will probably get one before then (from a friend that works at RIM ... With BB's is hard to use a lot of data unless you're actually downloading an actual file (like a movie or something). -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

Unless they're going to bring back BES this is not the case. ActiveSync is a polling method so it will use data all the time. With compression, it will just use less to poll. |

| reply to elwoodblues I'm hoping the phone companies will offer some nicer new plans for BB. I have been wanting to get a BB of late, but my current phone bill is $25, and I'm finding it hard to jump to $50 or more.. as for two people, that's a pretty decent increase when I mostly care about emails. Don't need all the other social stuff or Internet all that much. :\ |

Edit: I assumed you were referring to BesX, rather than BES 10. |

With compression, it will just use less to poll. ActiveSync does not poll it is a true push protocol and is reasonably light on resources. It's a fairly ingeniuous protocol as it uses a non-standard implementation of HTTPS and as I mentioned earlier does support compression.
I've looked furter into what RIM is providing with BB10 and it looks like they will be releasing BES 10 which will include management for iOS and Android devices as well as BB10. If you use BES 10 data will still be directed through RIM's NOC it's just the communication between the device and the NOC will use ActiveSync.
RIM is also giving companies the option of not using BES 10 and having BB10 devices communicate directly with the corporate Exchange server using ActiveSync. |
