| Hybrid HDD Mid 09 MBP Im fixing my friends MBB Mid 09 13" 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and she wanted to replace her 120GB 5400 RPM HDD to a Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM HDD.
Is there any reason why this upgrade wouldn't work? Any know issues to be aware of? (Heat, high vibration, etc?)

It seems they can be kind of hit or miss, but I'm not sure if those problems have been resolved in recent OS X upgrades or Momentus firmware upgrades.
Why not go with a straight SSD? If she's coming from a 120GB drive, a 240GB SSD may be enough space - and it'll be significantly faster than the 5400RPM or even the Momentus. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

SSD's are getting very inexpensive (compared to last year anyway) and I seen a 240GB going for $129 in Canada a couple weeks ago.
Try Black Friday, you might score big.
And thank user Jackarino and Thinkdiff since I had debated getting one of those hybrid drives...seems to be more of a risk than would warrant. It was for my 2009 unibody MacBook. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

 | said by Jackarino:What is better the Samsung 840 or the OCZ Vertex 4? the Samsung 840. The Vertex, which I have is really fast, but it suffers from an issue where if you get it over a certain amount full the writes speeds slow down. The Samsung from everything i have read is a really solid SSD. |
