[Tech] Photography monitor

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a good, but not too expensive, LCD monitor for image editing with Photoshop and Lightroom. I would like to stay well under the $1000 mark if at all possible, but at the same time would like a monitor that is capable of reproducing the Adobe RGB color gamut. Any suggestions?

Re: Photography monitor

24": Dell U2410
27": Dell U2711

Both are full IPS panels with 96% Adobe RGB color gamut.

I would recommend incorporating about $200 for a color calibrator like the Spyder 4 from Datacolor into your purchase as no matter what any manufacturer claims, the calibration won't be "enough."

Another possible option are the Apple displays, however they're only about 84% of the Adobe RGB (according to AnandTech)

I use an Asus PA246Q rated for 98% AdobeRGB: »www.asus.com/Display/LCD ··· /PA246Q/

Earlier this year, Asus also introduced the PA248Q with a 100% AdobeRGB rating: »www.asus.com/Display/LCD ··· /PA248Q/

if you want a 30" i've seen quite a few deals on amazon for the U3011 @$999, which has great adobe rgb coverage.

A couple of people here have mentioned Dell Monitors. I've read that they use an 'aggressive' anti-glare coating. Anything to this?

My U2410 has no anti-glare anything. It's matte

Re: Photography monitor ... with Multi-touch

I'm also looking for a monitor for Photoshop editing, but with a 10-finger multi-touch display for use with Windows 8. Does anyone have a suggestion? I can't find anything at this time.

The Wacom Cintiq 24 HD Touch looks good, but not with a $3,700 price tag.

Re: Photography monitor

That Asus is much cheaper than I expected, though I am curious why the newer 28Q is cheaper than the 26Q.

i think the 28q uses a cheaper-to-produce panel vs the 24q

edit:
from the various review websites i've read about the 248q, the main difference is in the LED backlighting the 248q uses which will reduce color gamut.

the 248q also doesn't support 10-bit color which won't matter much since there's very little support for deep color.

I got one of these from my father's estate - »www.eizo.com/global/prod ··· dex.html. Haven't used it yet but it's got great specs and I know he was wicked picky about what technology he bought.

Sorry to hear about your father.

Looks like a good monitor though.
