Re: [Hockey] Official~ NHL thread...........scores and highlites One big difference between OHL hockey and MLB: baseball has salaries to pay, the OHL has per diems, accomodation, travel and education costs, but it's nowhere near what even the lowest paid MLB player makes. The costs the teams have to cover are very different, so the profit/loss ratios on ticket prices aren't directly related to how much is charged, it's about what the public will pay for them. Given that the Jays were drawing around 10k near the end of the season, they aren't profitable while most OHL teams other than Brampton usually are (hence the Battalion's announcement of a move to North Bay).
The 67s attendance is down this year because instead of being central at the Civic Centre (can draw from the whole city), they are out in Scotiabank Place (west end). Granted there are lots of fans to draw from in Kanata who might not have gone to the CC, but it's a massive building that seems empty even with 6-7k fans in like there were on Sunday afternoon. The CC holds ~9300 so 7k would be a good, noisy crowd. -- "Pro amicis mortui amicis vivimus" (We live in the hearts of friends for whom we died) the inscription on the Memorial in the Canadian War Cemetery at Groesbeek, the Netherlands |
