Re: Time Warner - replacement modem better speeds - Los Angeles?

Thanks that boost thing is certainly something to think about as I don't know if I have that or not. I can't explain why my friend gets much better speeds on Charter than he should with docsys 3.0 but he does 25x8.

I'm still curious if anyone here has switched from the default modem to their own modem purchased from other sources than TW.

A lot of people are using their own modem, especially now that TWC is charging a rental fee.

Replacing a modem with a DOCSIS 3 modem could boost speed in the following scenarios:
•Being on a plan that needs a DOCSIS 3 modem, but only having a DOCSIS 2 modem
•Incorrect provisioning by the cable company
•Problem with the original modem (unlikely)
•Network congestion issues that are less prevalent when channel bonding is used
