Yes we are in the sticks and I laugh when Frontier says they have made improvements that benefits our area. They can tell the PUC and the FCC that they are working to improve things but when you are the one that experiences the service they provide you know the truth. ]]></description>

We've told them for years they needed to focus on better speeds and fewer junk fees and they really need an IPTV or fiber to the neighborhood solution to stay relevant in urban markets because 1-3Mbps DSL is dead. <br><br>Just a week ago, Wilderotter was sniffing at the notion DSL is dead saying they are approaching 100Mbps in their labs.<br><br>Of course, as any Frontier customer knows, what happens in the lab usually stays in the lab. You buy 10Mbps service and get 1.2Mbps service because you live in West Virginia 11,000 feet from the Mt.  Dew switch and Mr. Squirrel uses the copper wiring Verizon installed right after LBJ decided not to run for a second term as dental floss. But then one day, the squirrel is perturbed to discover the copper is gone because some drug addict stole it for scrap.<br><br>You call and complain and they schedule a service call (which they miss) and then some pinhead in the Beckley office does a line test and further reduces your speed by locking down the modem to 1Mbps because "the line won't support anything better."<br><br>You then regret ever calling them about it. So now they don't for their new packages and sanctimoniously say so.<br><br>The hypocrisy and denial that comes when you challenge them on their 180 is less relevant than the fact customers will be able to pay less for service (but get stuck with a new 24 month contract.)<br><br>Just remember -- the $9.99 disconnect processing fee will also apply if you cancel service.<br><small>--<br>Phillip M. I went to Frontier's website to see if I could find the current rate for 1mb/128kb, which is what appears on my bill (even though I get about 6 meg due to a recent network upgrade where I'm at).<br><br>All I could find were newer plans - Broadband Ultimate ($69), Ultra($59), and Max($49).<br><br>It's probably some gimmick to get people on newer modems (or company-branded ones) so they can drive up their monthly bills. I also have the same modem that they are using for bonded DSL. I purchased that modem based on the erroneous information the provided when I got the second DSL line last year. So it is setting here just waiting. I was hoping that they were intending to improve service here, but that is not the impression I got from my conversation this morning. But, I will need to do some additional checking.]]></description>

Anyone else received one of these packages? I do not have Frontier rented modems and do not intend to accept this one. I will call tomorrow to find out why they sent this to me. But it appears that are saying we now have faster speeds available here. <br><br>The fine print at the bottom say "Prequalification for the service is based on your telephone number and location. Further testing may reveal that your line does not qualify."<br><br>Update: I talked with a Frontier CSR this morning. Advised I did not request a new modem nor did I want to change anything with my current service, including what I am paying, unless they were going to provide improved or faster service. That I do not currently have a Frontier provided modem thus no modem rental fee and I did not want that to change.  He response was that I must have recently had a circuit problem and they sent the modem.
