Don't most of the VoIP providers "quietly" not support SMS? Can you provide a list of VoIP providers who do support SMS? (Anveo and Localphone are the only two that I can see -- plus, it appears, GV -- if you can get it.) And, if it's really that huge of a deal to you, why don't you port out?

I managed to have a 403 number verified but in retrospect, I should have asked for a 403 GV number. That would have been more useful!

Like most of the feature implementations at Anveo, it is half baked and gratuitiously restrictive. You can't skip the useless date and time announcement preceding all messages, nor disable it. Menu is non standard, and I could never skip/FF/delete a playing message half way through. Etc etc.

Simple fix really, but...

Thanks Neilio, being a cheapskate, I tried forwarding via SIP-URI (free), which was working if dial directly but not in a callflow. Right now I SIP-URL forward to voip.ms, but will consider forwarding to GV and pay the 1 or 2 extra cents per msg. Would be nice to have my cellphone doing that do, as cheaply, as possible.

Anveo does have this, as well as GoogleVoice.

Localphone has limited SMS capability only.

What's really interesting and hopeful is that some Canadian pass-through numbers seem to be active. Someone from the 514 area code said they've managed to make calls which were piped through a 514 number instead of the usual call to a US number.

I've tried calling from my 416 number and was forwarded to a 647 number (647-317-6994 to be exact).

It'd be kind of odd for Google to turn all of this stuff on and not launch, though I suppose anything's possible.

To get your Canadian number verified, you'll need to do it via the Android Google Voice app — that seems to be the only place that verification is working. You simply add your cell # to GV in the app and it should be automatically verified.

If anyone else tries this, please report back with your successes and failures.
