Re: Win XP Startup screen wrong...

Note: I am unable to change the WinLogon registry section - possibly because I am not logged in as Admin

Well, there you are screwed. You can't administer the computer without being an administrator, and any change to accounts is administration.

Try logging off while holding the 'shift' key. I vaguely recall some such way to defeat automatic logon.

Thanks, dave... It's not my computer, but I was asked to fix it... as always, everyone thinks I can fix anything. Unfortunately, I cannot.

Any idea how this might have occurred??

Re-install Windows??

I have the Dell Re-installation disk...

It sounds like automatic logon is enabled, and logging off while holding the shift key prevents automatic logon from kicking in and logging you back in to the account that is configured for automatic logon.
