I'm also wondering whether it can actually compare to MBAM or SAS. I will wait and read a couple of opinions here first. I haven't used Spybot in ages.

Apparently they give you all sorts of choices to select when you install this version. Would appreciate suggestions from those who have already done this as to what things to check and what things to avoid when installing. What things do most feel are absolutely necessary? Appreciate any thoughts.

SpyBot (in it's current form) has led to the untimely demise of several clients O/S. Even in final release the URL(s) to fetch it are silently installed in a Hosts file.

Was going to download and install this version since in the past I had used version 1.6.2 with some success and certainly no trouble. But ran across this review in PC magazine and just decided to pass for now. »www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2412372,00.asp

I agree with the PC Mag review. Spybot 2.0 is a very disappointing revision, and I will uninstall it. Based on the fundamental changes to the UI and the way the product operates, I am afraid it is unsalvageable. I might re-install version 1.6.2, but since support for the old version is likely to be discontinued there might not be any point.

I've got the non-current version sitting on my computer, but I haven't used it in years.

I have been using Spybot - Search & Destroy for probably 10 years now.
I have been debating whether or not to uninstall it because it really does nothing for a few years it has just been there collecting dust.

After seeing the review for 2.0 I decided to ditch it and now I notice my computer runs more snappier.

FWIW I use SS&D as a way to keep my hosts file updated with sites of known malware. That is to me its primary value. YMMV
