| [Equipment] OBi110: PHONE PORT LED DISAPPEARED! Hello,
My OBi110 unit has the PHONE Port LED light disappeared while I was updating Tone & Ring Profiles. The phone cord still connects between the phone and PHONE port of OBi. Power LED is still on.
What should I do now? Please help!
Thank you! |

I am very glad you replied. For the past few days after Bell line was disconnected after a port-out to voip.ms was completed, I can call out but there are 2 persistent problems with incoming calls to the newly-ported DID:
1. The phone does not ring (but calls show up in CallDetails Record);
2. Calls made by cell phones or other phones result in hearing a voice mail message that belongs to my original DID.
I did remove new DID from the original ring group (I did not put it there) and only route calls to SIP (i.e. NO failover steps), but cannot solve this problem.
I plugged some other working phones into the OBi and still got the above 2 problems so the current Panasonic phone is fine.
Since voip.ms has been working hard with me trying to determine the cause, and because I am under a lot of pressure, I decided to take another look at the OBi Expert config pages. The rationale for this decision was that when I call the new DID via X Lite - Obitalk soft phone, the phone rings, and besides I note that in Tone Profile & Ring Profile pages the OBiTALK settings were checked (settings were already there) instead of "default device". Since I bought this unit from you I have not completed configuring it from Day 1.
After putting check marks on the "default device" boxes and rebooted OBi box by unplugging then replugging it, I happened to note that only the Power LED is on. I also tried to re-enter SIP credentials in Voice Services SP1/SP2 since OBIHAI FAQ says the PHONE LED is not on because the unit shuts down if authentications are not correct. From Day 1 for some reason the credentials never stay on the boxes even if I use IE and "submit" after making each entry.
Sorry for the long reply. Tomorrow my parents may chew me out and I may have to get a different ATA. |

 | reply to Trev Hi Trev,
The status page on the OBi Web portal and all other pages do not show any errors! Everything appears normal. |

You [should] try to track down which providers are going through to your new service with Voip.MS, and which still go to the old BellCanada line. |

| PX,
Thanks for the encouragement.
When I pick up the still-connected phone and press TALK, I hear a steady stream of ringing tone and the phone displays "Line in use". I immediately look at the Call Details Record but see no incoming calls. Does this mean anything? |

| Hi,
The top of page 136 OBi Admin Guide says "Tone & Ring Profile A is for (Good Ole) USA style phones, while Tone & ring Profile B is for (Down Under/Upside Down =Aussie) Australia phones. Good thing I happen to catch this info first time!
Even though I re-checked OBiTALK boxes as originally shown in Tone & Ring Profiles A/B, the problem of steady ringing tone is not solved until I change all tone and ring profiles in SP2 and PHONE Port from B to A. Originally the manual implies A=1 and B=2 as in ITSP, so I made the mistake while not being aware that the contexts for the 2 letters are different.
At least a problem solved!
Also noticed that the PHONE LED flashes when I pick up the receiver, hearing the familiar steady dial tone at the same time. |

I assume that from another phone, you are calling your phone number which was ported from BellCanada to Voip.MS.
I am also assuming that you are referring to the Call Detail Record on the Voip.MS dashboard.
I'm also assuming that your Obi 110 still has a PSTN connection to BellCanada.
[If] all of that is true, then apparently at least some calls are still being routed to BellCanada rather than to your new Voip.MS service.
And [if] that is the case, and [if] it is still happening by Monday, then start taking it up with the providers.
---------------
If this were simply a problem with your Obi ATA configuration, that could not explain why the inbound calls don't show up on the Voip.MS dashboard. |

| Hello PX,
I was using the phone connected to OBi110.
CDR is on voip.ms dashboard
Call out via SP2 (VOIP.MS). No more PSTN (Bell Canada)
This AM a relative called our house, and callerID on his phone shows my Google Voice number. I then unchecked the US DID that GV was using to forward GV calls to. I also deleted the ring group and all other possible failover steps in voip.ms so that no GV calls go to my main DID. Incoming calls only get a voip.ms voicemail message, no ringing on the OBi-connected phone.
Also did a factory reset of OBi110 then deleted SP1=GV from OBi. Now all the settings are there and despite re-entering VOIP.MS credentials my SP2 =voip.ms connection still shows "device not configured"!
Tried VOIP.MS chat support but was bounced off to sending email, then email request was denied. Their office phone is only available Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm.
My Dad got mad and decided to have some relative sign up with freephoneline.ca, and re-porting our number there.

That would account for the light going out and for the lack of inbound calls, while outbound calls still work just fine. -- Wondering what I do? AFAIK the preferred method of contacting Voip.MS support is to log in to the website (dashboard) and start a support ticket.
Anyway, sounds like your dad is not a patient man. Unfortunate that is.
None of this confusing situation is your fault.
I hope that your dad and the relative have not made things even worse by trying to re-port a number that has barely, barely been ported. It's like that guy in British Columbia who tried and failed to circumcise himself, then tried it on his kid too.
Your dad also needs to understand that in 2012, even the traditional phone companies like BellCanada aren't going to provide urgent fixes to residential customers on a weekend. |

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it sounds like the OBI was connected at the same time as you still had Bell (Copper wire) service. Were these two connected simultaneously? If so, and a call came in over the copper (Bell) you may have fried your OBI. |

| reply to decx Hello decx,
I did use softphones like X_Lite 5.0 and Zoiper Free. Still could not register.
I just found out from reading one of the customer comments on amazon.com, that Google Voice credentials are stored on the OBi device. Perhaps this is why incoming local calls to our local number shows a GV callerID number based in the USA, despite applying changes to OBi and voip.ms networks.
The nuissance has been removed after I deleted SP1=GV and did a factory reset of OBi110. Afterwards, entering voip.ms credentials for SP2 on OBi110 does not stick. Therefore my Dad asked my relative to replace it with a different ATA, namely SPA-3102. which registers with voip.ms. Tomorrow I will contact voip.ms to see if I can re-register OBi110 device. If OBi110 does register and works fine, I will use it as a back-up or standby device. |

No, Bell copper wire service has been disconnected for several days. See my reply to decx. |

| reply to PX Eliezer Hello PX,
My ticket to voip.ms is still outstanding. I always start with voip.ms chat because this way is quicker to get a live support person than sending email and besides the subject line in chat conversation has a window for entering ticket number. Now I learn even live chat may not be available after 4:30PM weekdays and even more so in the weekends.
At this moment OBi110 has power and PHONE port LED lights on but I still cannot configure and register the device after a factory reset.
Please refer to my reply to decx for the latest development. |

TrevIP Telephony AddictPremium join:2009-06-29 Victoria, BC kudos:4 | Is your OBi registered on the OBiTalk portal? If you still have settings there they will override whatever you have locally.
You should either use the ObiTalk *or* configure your device locally, but never both at the same time unless you want phantom settings lurking around. -- Wondering what I do? Find out at »www.digitalcon.ca Get your Obihai ATA in Canada. |

 | Hi Trev,
I only use OBi ExpertConfiguration to configure the device. |

Please refer to my reply to decx for the latest development. Does dialing ***1 from a phone still give an IP address address? If so, can you ping that address from the machine you are browsing from?
Maybe a firewall or routing problem is eating your web configuration attempt. |
