Steam and games

I sold my laptop and am wondering how I can get my games onto a new one in the near future?
I downloaded them after buying on steam.

Yes. Your steam games are linked to YOUR account. Not the computer.

Well, in a way they are tied to the computer. Steam guard uses a key from what I can tell, that identifies the computer. But when you log in from new computer, it will send you an email saying your on a new computer and would you like to use it as such.

I had the same problem when I formatted this computer. Its pretty easy. Just have to know your email password and log in information to transfer the games to the new computer.

And I hope that you wiped the old computer before selling...Then your information like CC or anything that you have told Steam cannot be used at a later date to hijack your Steam account or anything worse.
