Additionally, I'd have moved a couple of feet to the right to better center the start and vanishing point of the road and fence. I tried to rectify the perceived imbalance by cropping. This is a 5:4 crop, but a 3:2 crop might suffice. This one draws me more to the vanishing point than does the original.

The downside is that I missed some of the detailed spruce needles on the left.

I like your crop, it sends a complete different message than what I think he was going for, but I am only guessing. The crop I did and the crop mhhack did was making the photo about the fence post.
