Accessing the PK5001Z modem when it's bridged

Anyway to access the online GUI for the PK5001Z? After putting it in transparent bridging mode, there's no way for me to get back into the GUI unless I restart the modem.

You have to set a static IP, in the proper range, on a PC connected directly to the modem.

How do I go along in doing that?

It depends on the version of windows you are using. Go to the IPV4 network settings for the LAN port, change from DHCP to manual, enter the modems IP address as the gateway, change the last digit to a higher number and enter it as the IP address, use 255.255.255.0 for the netmask. You will not have internet access when set this way, so DNS does not need entered. Open a web browser and enter the modems IP address. It should bring up the admin page. The LAN port on the PC should be connected directly to a LAN port on the modem, not to your router, for this to work.

Also, do you know how to get the PK5001Z back to normal after a power surge? I have to actually reset the modem completely and then setup it all up for transparent bridging again.

I seem to remember seeing a "save configuration" somewhere when rooting around in there. But I have no idea if that would work in reloading your configuration in this case.

Is it normal for the modem to be non-functional in bridge modem after a power surge?

If the modem is not behaving normal after a power surge, then you need to replace it. I would suggest adding a smart UPS to protect the components, and making sure your outside ground connections are done properly.

Usually, when in bridge mode, the internet light on the modem does not come on. It comes on in router mode to indicate the modem has an active internet connection.

That internet light begins to blink red if I power cycle the modem or if there's a power surge.

That is normal when you power-cycle the modem. After it is done booting it should be green or off, red if there is a problem.

If you have power issues that keep resetting the modem, then you need to get it on a UPS before it is ruined.

Once it is in bridge mode, you should not have to do anything with it. When it loses power, you have to wait for it to boot and sync the DSL circuit before trying to connect to the internet.

I'm having all of these exact same problems.
- If I power off the modem when it was set to bridge mode it will not restart properly... internet light flashes red/green, connection doesn't work and I have to reset the modem and start all over
- In fact a centurylink support rep was totally baffled when this occurred on a call
- sometimes after setting it up in bridge the Internet light flahses fast green (or unsteady... three fast, then a long on)

Thanks - I think I now understand how to connect to admin.. I'm assuming since default IP is 192.168.0.1, then I connect directly to the modem and set my PC IP to 192.168.0.2

Will try that next time.
