I had a Cincinnati Bell salesman knocking on my door 11/17/2012 which was a Saturday letting me know that Fioptics was available in my area. I told him I did not want to make the switch yet I would have to think about it and do some research about their service. He left me with his business card and said he would call back Monday. I wanted to know is FTTN a good service or is it prone to problems. How is it different from fiber to the home. I see mixed opinions on the internet. I would at least use four tunners at one two on the DVR one in the bedroom and another in the family room constantly. I would have a total of five TVs
Reading the forum you can probably get some feel for what people like / don't like. Channel selection is good and improving. Set top box software has been poor but is getting better. Offshore customer service nobody likes....
In a way it depends what you are comparing to. e.g. Fioptics FTTN is less affected by weather than DirecTV (slight interference rather than total signal loss).
I have looked over the forums and I decided to try the service. I went ahead and called the sales person using his business card and signed up for TV, Internet, and Home Phone.
I choose the Fioptics Max Package and I got one whole house DVR and four HD Boxes. I also got the 30MB Internet package and also got the Home phone with unlimited long distance. They scheduled the install for Monday November 26 2012.
The 2 places I've seen it installed, they run a new line to the house. Some day they will bring it down my street. Today I see they lowered my zoomtownMax 10Mb down to zoomtown and gave me 5Mb without sending me anything. Still paying xtra for it
They installed everything. The HD Picture quality is way better than Time Warner Cable. I would put it on par with Satellite's HD Picture quality if not a little better. Internet is fast and low ping times around 35ms.
