Looking at the big picture, you are probably paying MORE for the 'less expensive' route than you would using the more expensive items. The 4-5 hours of game play didn't advance your professions at all. In that same time you could have farmed gold on your highest level toon and bought all the mats you needed to advance past this roadblock.
