brg join:2001-01-03 Chicago, IL kudos:1 | Need to re-validate GoogleVoice "Forward-To" phone We've talked about the need to use your GoogleVoice service so that it doesn't go dormant on you, and we've discussed various DID providers' non-use time-frames before they act to recover your unused DID.
Slightly different, however (at least I don't recall reading about this, or misinterpreted what I read):
I just got the following email from Google Voice:
Hello,
It looks as if you havent used your Google Voice forwarding phone (NPA) NXX-XXXX in a while. We would like to make sure that the information on your account is accurate and that you still own this phone number.
If youd like Google Voice to continue forwarding calls and texts to this forwarding number, you will need to verify it by December 19, 2012 at »www.google.com/voice****. If you no longer own this phone number, please remove it from your account at »www.google.com/voice****.
True enough; I had stopped forwarding from that GV number to that particular DID (which is still active for other purposes).
Non-buyer beware! |

 | Yea, I just got a few of these e-mails for the various GV numbers I have. |

Re: Your Google Voice forwarding phones I just got an email regarding Google Voice forwarding phones, too (it must be a new thing they're doing; I have a total of 3 forwarding phones they've (correctly) identified as unused on one account); however, I haven't received any such emails from Google on my MobileMe email account yet, which, as a Google Account, has a number of unused forwarding phone numbers, too.
Has anyone received any such emails on a non-gmail account? |

Interestingly, the email that I received -- and the only email that I have received -- was directed to a non-gmail account. It's a Yahoo addy that I had used to create a GV account; the one and only time I have ever associated a GV set-up with a non-Google email address. |

This way they try to validate two things at once.. -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |

Re: Need to re-validate GoogleVoice "Forward-To" phone I also got the email this week. What bothers me is I have a balance with Google Voice. I use it to make international calls. So if they were to pull my number what would happen to my balance and could I still make outbound calls. |

Just guessing: (1) You'd still have a balance because your service wasn't terminated; Google simply "de-authorized" your forward-to number for purposes of completing inbound calls. (2) You'd therefore still be able to make outbound calls via any other mechanism (Gmail -- computer and headset) call-in from some other number (cell; whatever)... |
