(Ultimate) Not getting anywhere near advertised speedI just got Ultimate but I'm not getting anywhere near the advertised speed. I'm getting between 22-3Mbps on wifi. If I plug in directly to the modem (Cisco in bridge mode), and reboot it I get 90Mbps. Once I plug in my Magicjack to my router I see the speed drop. I checked the SnR on the modem and everything is perfect (40db, +4db for every channel).
I don't understand why it drops off so far. Rogers guy split the cable from the street using the existing splitter there (home is a resale). I don't know what to do.
Any advice? I need the higher upload (I got the older ultimate plan just before it switched to the new one), for work as I work for a software company and every few days I have to upload entire programs (between 250mb-8gb). |

Are the slow wireless speeds with the Cisco DPC3825 or your own 3rd party router? The Rogers home gateways are notorious for crap wireless performance. |

3rd party (Cisco E4200). When I connect directly to the modem and reboot it I get close to ad speed. Then after I plug in my MJ and wait for to initialize it drops to 20-35Mbps |

If you get close to ad speeds when wired into the modem bridged, then that right there tells you your problem.
If you get capped in your E4200 at 90 Mbps, it sounds like it's not running at full Gigabit WAN and only on 10/100, or it is on Gigabit WAN and only on Half-Duplex. Make sure all that's correct.
Still not getting close to 150 try disabling the firewall? or another router. |

I get close to ad speed when I reboot the modem. Once I plug on the magicjack, after a few mins I get the speeds I reported. Could I be the magicjack (even though I have it plugged into a power bar and Ethernet from router)?
I don't understand wtf is causing the issue and its annoying me. |

You get full speed over wifi after you reboot the modem? I'm sorry but trying to clarify.
Are you using wifi with a desktop or laptop? Or how/with what is this device connected is your wifi network? |

I only get close to ad speed when I unplug the magicjack and directly plug (or use wifi) and reboot the modem. It doesn't last very long. Maybe 5-10 minute either plugged in or wifi then I get 20-35Mbps. |

So what version of MagicJack do you have there is the Wifi Version, the Ethernet Version, and the Computer Edition.
How is the computer connected? Directly on Ethernet to the DPC3825 Connected Ethernet to the E4200 or Wirelessly to either of the two.
If it is Wireless and the MagicJack is also wireless it can be due to the MagicJack using G Wireless. |

Magicjack Plus (it's Ethernet. You are thinking Nettalk which has wifi).
Have modem mounted beside fuse panel, port 1 goes to "Internet port" on E4200. I've tried doing it wired or wireless same result. I just moved in so all this is with my Sager laptop. Realtek Ethernet card and intel centrino 6300 wireless cards are built in.
I wasn't getting this problem at my old house. I've checked the modem status and everything is well within SNR range. So I don't understand wtf is going on. |

Have you scanned the wireless traffic in your neighborhood? Try a different channel, 1, 6 or 11. |

Could be a network issue. This is Express 25/2 in London. |

I honestly don't think it's a wireless issue because if I hardwire I get the same result. |

Connect a computer on port 1 of the 3825 and leave it in bridge mode and reboot the modem and then run test with just one computer connected and no router/magicjack etc. Report the results here. |

Give me a few minutes and I'll run speed tests in 5 min intervals for 15 mins with you suggestion. |

Try the Beanfield Metroconnect Speedtest server. Should be the 3rd one in the list. |

Your upload speed should be 2mbps, post the modem logs from the docsis log page. |

Is that it or are there more entries in the log?
Edit: You didn't do the tests from the modem like I asked, do it with the computer directly connected to the DPC3825 because your e4200 might be reducing your speed if it thinks your speed is slow when it ran its QoS tests. |

oops forgot to include it That's all that in the logs. |

That's all that in the logs. Yep, as I suspected its your e4200's QoS, you need to disable it and set it manually. |
|
compil3 join:2010-05-11 Woodbridge, ON |
Let me try that. I'll just disable it completely. |
|

I'm going to try turning wireless mode on and see if I get a better result. I have a feeling the router is dying. |
|
compil3 |
That didn't work. I'm stumped. |

You disabled the QoS? |

Yup, now its even slower the before. On Wifi |

On Wifi How is it connected wired to the e4200? And also make sure the wifi settings in the router are set to wireless N and change it to a different channel, like channel 9 or something. And I assume you are using a wireless N card. Edit: If you can enable remote management I can remotely check all the settings if you want. Just pm me your IP and admin/password if you want me check everything. And if none of this works then you can try putting in ddwrt on the e4200 as the problem is the router, your modem and everything on rogers side is fine. Also temporarily you can use the built in router in your modem, its still much better than what you are getting right now. Just put it back into router mode. |

Tried using built in. Makes no difference. The tech left me his number. I guess I can call him tomorrow. I just don't understand why it's bouncing around like this. |
