SD Card for Canon Powershot A520

I am just wondering if the Canon Powershot A520 can use an SD card that larger than 512MB (even if not 100% of capacity for the larger card. 512MB is the largest size the manual indicates the camera can use) as the SD card that I got with the camera appears to have finally bit the dust and that size is difficult to find.

Will the 2GB card require a firmware update? The camera in question is running firmware version 1.0.0

my understanding, no firmware update as most P&S can't have their firmware updated.

Hmm, I have read that Canon will upgrade firmware on cameras even if the camera is out of warranty. However, this may apply more to their SLR/dSLR models than their P&S Models (support article I read did not specify one way or the other). Either way, since you have to send the camera to one of their service centers, it does not sound like a DIY job.

I believe the A520 supports SD cards, but not SDHC cards. You could take your camera to a big box store and try a 2GB SD card.

Only problem with the big box stores is that the minimum they appear to have in stock is a 4GB SDHC card.
