[Extension] Adblock Plus 2.2.1 released

Adblock Plus 2.2 released November 21, 2012
Works with Android 11.0a1 - 20.0a1, Firefox 9.0 and later, SeaMonkey 2.6 and later, Thunderbird 9.0 and later

• New typo correction feature helps avoid landing on malicious web pages (not enabled by default) - see »adblockplus.org/blog/typo-correc···ock-plus.
• Code license change: GNU General Public License version 3.0 instead of Mozilla Public License version 2.0
• Minor fixes

Detailed changelog: »adblockplus.org/en/changelog-2.2
Download @ AMO or ABP

Note: Lots of Adblock Plus users were complaining about unintentionally landing on web pages that tried to use their mistake by either showing ads to them or even by installing malware. We heard you and thought up a way to fix that.

A few months ago we took over the development of the URL Fixer extension and made some substantial improvements. Now this functionality is ready for prime time and has been added to Adblock Plus 2.2.

The link about the typo correction does not work. I keep getting a 'Connection Interrupted' error.

2.2.1 is out to correct a bug with older versions of FF.

No ABP stable updates for Firefox lately.
The ABP Development Builds contain the absolute latest changes and fixes.

Worthy of a new topic rather than hijacking this one.

Be aware of that one.
From what I recall "not enabled by default" was not as straight forward as that. Kind of like you did get prompted, once, at some point. It's been a little while now, & I don't recall exactly.

And in any case, I suspect it is a "feature" many would not particularly want.

(IMO it should not have been made a part of ABP at all.)

Yes, it gives a prompt "do you want to ....."

and is an Option; user controlled

I think it is a bad feature. I visit Sourceforge a lot and they have a shorter "sf.net", and ABP thinks I may have meant "se.net". I wonder what other bad recommendations it makes.

When I put sf.net in the location bar, (with Typo Corrections enabled) Firefox goes to
»sourceforge.net/account/login.ph···count%2F

It redirects project pages to "se.net" (eg smplayer.sf.net "corrects to smplayer.se.net).

The first time it thinks you made a mistake, it goes to that page (stupid feature), but pops up a thing at the top asking if you want to keep the change. If you say no, then the feature is disabled for good.

There are tons of errors, and the current version cannot report back anything you want to not be changed. I had issues with several electronics sites, like Texas Instruments (ti.com), ST Micro (st.com), Omron, etc... I think the 'correction' for Omron redirected to a dead link!

I agree, the typo auto-correct is bad. I tried it a few times and ddn't like typos being redirected to sites in my Hosts file

Good developer that he is, the option is easily disabled.

It's certainly more helpful to post your comments, opinions and experiences to the developer ... topic at his forum..

I've disabled the opt-in auto-correct feature, thus defeating the possibility of going to mistyped domain names.

In that case it's a bug and we need to fix it.
If it reactivates, it would be helpful to report to the developer.

I would contact the Dev if this were an issue to report though it has not been an issue for me over the time I have been using ABP.
