Hmm, I have read that Canon will upgrade firmware on cameras even if the camera is out of warranty. However, this may apply more to their SLR/dSLR models than their P&S Models (support article I read did not specify one way or the other). Either way, since you have to send the camera to one of their service centers, it does not sound like a DIY job.--
