[SNOW] The Winter 2012/2013 Thread

I think it depends on who you listen to. I actually read just the opposite on weather.com a couple weeks ago. Accuweather is run by a crew of Winter fanatics, so I take anything they say with a grain of salt. Also, they can't pin down a Winter crap storm 3 days ahead of time, never mind 3 months! We shall see.

In any case, I am very much looking forward to next April!

I take those longer range forecasts with a large grain of salt. Last year was supposed to be the winter to end all winters for the city of Chicago... and they got close to nuttin' like the rest of us. Considering how badly some of these forecasts have been blown as of late... I can't say I'll put a lot of faith in this one...

Now that I've said that... time to get the snow thrower ready!

I forgot to say, I remember them saying the exact same thing last year, and look what happened! A 'one and done' Winter.

With the climate in overdrive, I'm thinking one of these Winters in the near future may even induce Glenn to wish for Spring.

Perhaps we're due for a 3 or 4 footer? Hmmm...

When it comes to weather, we only have one certainty -- that areas that are prone to extensive weather issues (like lower Manhattan) will have done nothing to prevent future dilemmas. Our planning for the future as a populace is roughly 8 or 10 hours in advance. Then the response is "Run for your lives!!!"

I have to side with the weather wags when they tell us "Flood controls designed for the 20th century are not appropriate for the 21st." Do tell...

Apologies for the negative. Intended more as sarcastic, not that sarcasm is much better.

Well, much to the dismay of many in this forum... I'm kinda hoping for a whopper so I can get some seat time on that new snow thrower I bought.

My first snow blower usage was only 4 or 5 years ago. I'm standing here, and the snow is going 20 or 30' over there -
what's not to like about that?

One little caveat - it's almost always windy just after a snow storm.
One day of post storm calm would be nice to keep the snow out of our faces, but Mother Nature thinks otherwise.

I'll never forget one day while blowing snow, the boss and family arrived. I opened the back hatch of their car to unload and said "Hello." The kids just looked at me, and said nothing. A fully iced beard and mirrored glacier shades perhaps? I guess they thought Admiral Byrd had risen from the dead to blow their driveway.

December 11th and still no snow here in NYC. I am deeply depressed over the situation.

Glenn..can you please come to Buffalo and take your snow.
We got nailed last night with about a foot and more on the way. Another storm in expected Saturday.

I got nuttin' from this one.. I'll have to head outside and give my snow thrower a pep talk as it probably feels very unloved.

Not happy about tomorrow's forecast at all. I had plans, and they are now totally ruined. Did I ever mention how much I hate snow????

Not giving up hope of the storm taking a last minute swerve & staying out to sea where it belongs. Then I will be able to still do what I would like to tomorrow. They've done it before. Keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow's does the same!

Well, my AWD Rider snow thrower was finally put to use today after about a foot of snow last night, and it was UNSTOPPABLE!!

With no tire ballast, no wheel weights, and no chains, and starting from the bottom of my driveway, up a constant 9-degree slope, it never slipped or hesitated once!! It bit the ground and somehow knew where to send traction. Snow was flying at peak setting at least 40-50 feet. It was super impressive. I got done in record time, and got two of my neighbor's driveways done so I could get some more seat time.

I had a couple of quick videos shot from indoors, but during the next storm, I intend to get some better video. These videos really don't do it justice... but at least for now you can have a look.

Congrats! That thing's a beast.
And after looking at the accessory product page, you need the broom attachment to be able to finish up the little stuff left over.
