49 years ago today "What were you doing?" "where were you?"

Those old enough, do you recall what you were doing that fateful day in November 22, 1963 when a young US President by the name of John F Kennedy was shot in Dallas, Texas?

I was 9 years of age at the time. My family lived in Whites Lake which is a rural village about 20 miles from Halifax on the way to Peggy's Cove. I was attending elementary school at Atlantic Memorial in Shad Bay...

I do recall my Dad picking me up at the school yard in a 1953 Chevy which I still fondly recall to this day. Dad informed me there was bad news, President Kennedy had been shot. I was in utter shook... I thought to myself, the President is the most powerful man in the world. The US President does not get shot unaware Presidents Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley were all previously assassinated...

I do believe it was a Friday, and on Sunday afternoon we were watching tv when regular programming was interrupted to air live the Dallas police escorting Lee Harvey Oswald from the basement of the Dallas police building...

I do remember vividly my Dad exclaiming "Jesus Christ...they shot him", when what looked like a businessman, later identified as Jack Ruby pulled out what a snub nosed revolver and shot Oswald in the stomach while in the company of the police...

The following week a teacher brought a portable tv into the classroom as we all huddled around a black & white screen and watched the funeral of a person who if given the chance could have been the best American President ever...

Later that same year Mom's youngest sister Madeleine (Aunt Maddie to me) succumbed to cancer. She was 22 at the time...

I think I lost a lot of my innocence that year and questioned why do bad things happen to good people...

I was in 9th grade history class when the Principal announced what happened over the schools public address system. I didn't see Kennedy as a good guy, however. My exposure to Philly big shot pols as a kid( I lived next door to Philly's political boss)already made me aware of the fact that Kennedy was nothing but another crooked pol. It was, however, a shock that he was killed.

I was home sick with the flu. Flopped out on the couch watching a tv
game show. They broke in saying shots had been fired at the
president's motorcade. They went back to the game show. About 2-3
minutes later they broke away again but this time it was Walter
Cronkite.....no more "regular" TV for over a week. I will never forget
the look on Mr. Cronkite's face when he told the world JFK was dead.

I wasn't around. Parents weren't married yet. My mom was working at SunBeam home working with the water heads and she heard he was dead and another radio station said he was in a coma, and a co-worker shrieked "Kennedy is DEAD" and my mom angrily yells back "No he's not! He's in a coma!" 5 minutes later, radio confirmed he was dead.

I was born about nine months after the assassination, so I'd say I was busy being conceived.

1) You keep saying that. Are there [any] Democrats that you like?

2) Living next to a political boss, what, did you pick up the secrets through osmosis? Or use a stethoscope on the wall?

3) Sorry that your man Romney got whupped.

Sitting on the porch you overhear a lot thru open widows. And I went to grade school with 2 of his kids and was in his house often.

And in my other post, which you evidently read, I knocked the crooked Republican boss as well.

I was a we'en, about four years old and some lady smashed into our car at Cedarbrae Plaza, (it was a plaza back then) and the lady got out of her car and the first thing she said to my dad was, "Isn't it awful that President Kennedy got shot?"

Without looking into the productive system of women....do eggs get created during puberty, or as they created the day women are born? I know I should know this, but I don't...

So...if they are, I'll go with Gone's answer since I wasn't even around...

I was in high school in Victoria, BC. I think it was about 11 AM when the Pricipal announced Kennedy had been shot and then announced again about 1 PM that he had died and we all got the rest of the day off. The students were not upset because most of us didn't know anything about the USA except that we could get some US TV stations from Washington State.

Born with them. In fact, women lose many of them during puberty.

Women are born with more than enough to get them through puberty all the way to menopause.

Your 5 year old is in puberty?

On topic, I was not born. However my father passed on Nov 22 2001, so I remember the day for more than one reason.

I was very close with my Grandmother, and even though I can remember every single detail of the day - what I did, what the weather was like, where exactly I was driving from and going to when the phone call came in, etc - I can't remember the date.

I guess it's weird like that sometimes.

LOL Oh definitely not! I just re-read what I posted....definitely not in puberty...I've got according to most articles at least another 5 years before that happens.....
