Which aftermarket firmware are you planning to use? If you have a particular one, check the compatibility list and read the reviews on smallnetbuilder accordingly.
well I had tomato on my Linksys before it got all flaky on me it seemed to run good while the router lasted.. the router not working was not the effect of the firmware but for me bricking it so many times on the dd-wrt and having to short the pins out some 20+ times to reset it.
