I can confirm that WLIW Creat and World are still in 4:3 but alot of programming is widescreen so the 4 dark sides still exist. You might have the Zoom function on your TV or the box on.

...or his box is set to stretch/auto-fill the screen on non-HD channels.

Those was the first things I checked. I am on normal 1080i. I have a component connection to my tv. I haven't changed any settings from my STB.

tv aspect setting.
the info bar at the bottom isnt supposed to be stretched, its not like that on mine.
