Kearnstd posted : the motor itself will tell you if its reverseable every electric motor should have a data plate on its casing.

example is this blower motor I actually tend to use as a door stop. its plate states which wires to swap to make it go the other way.

Naturally this is not a gear motor or a cap start cap run motor but the data plate is the same idea I am sure in that it will say what is possible
--
[65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

leibold posted : Some PSC (permanent split capacitor) motors have symmetrical windings and therefore can be made reversible depending on which winding is put in series with the capacitor. However not all single phase motors with capacitor are PSC motors and even for a PSC motor the air flow to cool it can be an issue when reversing the spin direction.

Attempting to do variable speed control on a motor that is not designed for it is not likely to produce satisfactory results (low torque at lower speeds, unreliable starting at low speed settings, overheating motor windings).
--
Got some spare cpu cycles ?
shdesigns posted : You don't. It is an induction motor with a run cap. You would need a 4-wire access to do reverse.

To do speed control, you need a VFD (Variable Frequency drive). Ones that drive single-phase motors are rare.

proque posted : I have a 110 volt gearmotor that needs to be controlled by a DPDT toggle for forward/reverse and also needs a speed pot. This motor has an external capacitor and the 3 wires are black white & pink. How do I wire this? Thanks!
