SLOW - 30/2 First few days, now constant 17/1 and below

when i first switched over from cogeco (a company which i NEVER had any issues with speed before) to Start I was expecting 30/2 down/up as i signed up for.
i had these speeds constantly the first few days of service, now since yesterday i have had incredibly slow speeds (at least for me) of 17/1 and sometimes even half of that!

i called support already and did ping tests and speed tests. i did a factory reset of the modem and a power reset just to be sure, and even with my pc connected directly to the modem i have exactly half (17/1) of my speeds. they told me to keep monitoring my speed with tests over the next day to check and see if its maybe just slow speeds due to people in my area and peak hour. but i seriously doubt thats the case as this issue starts in the early afternoon (when i first am able to see it) and continues all into the night with no increase or decrease, it basically just stays at exactly half of my promised speeds.

is there anything else i can do?
could it be my modem? i only got it last week and havent been using it too long so i hope its something simple like that, and its rented not bought.

Looks like my problem too.

First 2 days, 32/2mbit 24/7, then got some brutal speeds from 7pm-12am after I got Cogeco to take a look at the speed been stuck at 16-17/1 forever!

I am also seeing lower than advertised speeds to a number of Speedtest locations. I am in Kingston (Cogeco).

This seems to be a profile issue. Seems like Cogeco has dropped a lot of us from the 30/2 profile down to the 16/1 profile:

Are you guys actually paying for 30/2? If you didn't specifically request to to be upgraded to Pro, your free ride is probably over.

I pay for Pro, and I'm still getting 30/2.

Not a profile issue for me. I was downloading earlier today from Steam and was consistently getting full speed (3 MB/s +).

I am technically paying for Advanced (20/1.5). But given I am still consistently seeing 2.0 on the upstream it does not appear my profile has changed. Also I am not even seeing 20 Mbit at the moment.

Maybe it just affects Niagara Falls / St. Catharines ? I don't know where ssjenforcer's from, but my profile has definately dropped down to 16/1, and i didn't notice it until i read this thread.

Edit: I'll add that i've been on the 30/2 profile since the very beginning.

vonSchroeder: you may be having a different issue than the rest of us, where it seems at least me, Fireblade and ssjenforcer have had our profiles dropped down to 16/1.

I wish the Speedtest result image would specify which exact server you used rather than just city, given there are multiple Toronto server that are reached differently from Start.

Yeah I tested mine tonight in Pembroke ON and it seems they have dropped me to a 17/1 profile. Disappointed... was really enjoying the 30/2!

That could well be. Just thought it was a bit of a coincidence that I am also seeing close to 16-17 Mbit max on the downstream during peak period. But if you guys are seeing 16 Mbit max all day then I agree that is likely a profile issue.

I also noticed the Start web page relects the slower profiles. They used to be in the 20-30MB range. for my area (K8A4B8).
Now their highest available profile is 17/1.
Well, it was fun while it lasted, boys.
We're always one flick of a switch away from incumbent bullshit.

I know. And that is why I said mine is not a profile issue. And that is why I agreed with you that they could be different issues. OP said he sometimes isn't even seeing 17/1 so for OP at least there could be a combination of the incorrect profile and some congestion. For me it appears to be exclusively a congestion issue somewhere along the line.

17/1 isn't even a valid Cogeco profile. It's 16/1, and only on Doc 2. If you have a Doc 3 modem you should be getting 20/1.5.

When I enter my postal code into the website I still see 20/1.5 and 30/2.
