Where did you read this exactly? Most if not all cable/satellite providers purchase their guide info and make it available via set-top boxes. Or are you referring to the PSIP data that comes with most unencrypted digital cable channels?

Another good website is zap2it.com and, of course, there's always tvguide.com (which also has an app.)

As far as iOS apps go, I prefer TV Forecast (HD) which lets me know when the next episode of my favorite show is coming up. I rarely want or even need a full TV guide.

Another app along these lines is AOL TV. And I'm sure there are many many more...
