I was one desktop across both monitors.
That limit usually applies to a single monitor, but pretty much all cards in the last couple of years have 2 or more outputs. I'm not particularly familiar with NVIDIA cards, but a good portion of ATI/AMD based cards can usually handle at least 3, but sometimes 4 or more displays. NVIDIA cards shouldn't be far behind.
