Switched to Start from cogeco

I ran a few speed tests with Cogeco before installing the Start cable modem

After that I installed the Start Modem and unplugged the power for the router and plugged it in and here is what i got

So is there something I can to do to speed up Start.ca or is it a slower service? The sales rep. at Start.ca told me what speed I get with cogeco will be the same with start?

Re: Switched to Start from cogeco looks like a big speed drop

It's not slower.

What kind of modem did you get? What package did you sign up for?

Can you test with toronto.speedtest.net and let me know the speed? Thanks.

Rocca...

Did you want everyone to try to use Toronto/Nexicom, as a standard speed test, or will any Toronto server do? (there's also TSI, and sometimes Beanfield?)

Maybe it's something related to the speed problems detailed here:
»SLOW - 30/2 First few days, now constant 17/1 and below

Any other info on this?

That Looks Better !
The modem is a dcm476. I like the real time usage meter!

Are you doing these speed tests over a wireless connection by chance?

What server are you using for your speed tests? Your latency seems way too high.

Use Nexicom or Beanfield out of Toronto. You'll get a much more realistic result as both of them peer with Torix along with Start.

The Nexicom one seems to be most consistent, ie »toronto.speedtest.net/

I will have to interject and say that the TekSavvy one is as equally or more, most consistent.

And I will interject and inform you that as a Start customer with prior experience what rocca says is the truth

TekSavvy is one of the company's I looked at but TekSavvy is not available on Cable in Kingston! and with DSL my phone line could only give me up to 2mb speed when bell tested my line. I will try the TekSavvy speed test when my son is done watching netflex.

yeah. no worries. thanks for considering though..

I was just fooling around.. our speed test server is up there too in parallel with the Nexicom one.. not sure how the order gets selected.. maybe it's alphabetical.. if you click on the Toronto circle to select a server.. you have two options...
