Re: Switched to Start from cogeco looks like a big speed drop We certainly will.. it's just a matter of time. Start is a great company though. You're already in good hands. -- Marc - CEO/TekSavvy |

| reply to TSI Marc said by TSI Marc:I was just fooling around.. our speed test server is up there too in parallel with the Nexicom one.. not sure how the order gets selected.. maybe it's alphabetical.. if you click on the Toronto circle to select a server.. you have two options... There's three now, and I find myself getting the third server - Beanfield - more than Nexicom or Teksavvy now. |

TSI MarcPremium,VIP join:2006-06-23 Chatham, ON kudos:14 | reply to rocca it's a good idea to have your own for sure.. guarantees that there's nothing between your server and your customer that isn't under your own control.. that's why we initially set one up.
although, given the proximity of Nexicom and ours.. I'd be surprised if you'd see any difference.. I'd expect that they'd all be the same consistency wise...
ell, can you do a few tests between the Nexicom one and ours? just curious to see if there are differences.
I know that we used to have one from dslr but somehow it was always slightly different then others. That's why we moved o the speedtest.net one... -- Marc - CEO/TekSavvy |

Nexicom:

Teksavvy:

They are all nearly identical right now, but I'd bet that if I do the same thing at 10PM tonight the Teksavvy results will be 26-28ish while Nexicom and Beanfield (which I omitted) will be identical to above. |

Re: Switched to Start from cogeco Gonzo... I see only 2 choices tonight; Beanfield seems to come and go. In the settings drop-down box for preferred server, for Toronto, Beanfield IS there, along with Radiant Communications, and Tek and Nexicom. I THINK I have seen Radiant in the main server choices for Toronto, but certainly not very often.
Your screen is different than mine; I think yours is what I used to see. Might this be dependant on the flash version? Speedtest version? And, I DO have a preferred site saved in my settings; do you?
I get this same screen whether I go in via www.speedtest.net, or toronto.speedtest.net.
BTW, if I click on BEGIN TEST, RECOMMENDED SERVER, and it does some quick ping tests, it sometimes doesn't even pick a Toronto server; it picks up Kitchener/Netflash instead.
Entering via speedtest.teksavvy.test gets their mini test first (about to expire?), and then usually gives a choice of Kitchener, Clifford, or Oakville. Oh, so that's why people have been posting tests from Clifford (Wightman Comm.)! I was wondering about that.
From Speedtest.net FAQ... Why did my host location disappear from the map? Speedtest.net has an automated health-check which makes sure hosts are online and responding normally. If the health-check cannot reach the server or finds an error in the configuration, it will take the host offline. |
|
GonePremium join:2011-01-24 Fort Erie, ON kudos:3 | I always see Beanfield, but I've *never* seen Radiant Communications. Weird.
If I select Recommended Server, I usually get Beanfield. Sometimes I'll get Tek, Nexicom or NRBN (which is the one that's highlighted with a triangle on my map) |
|
1 edit | I thought maybe a company might only provide this testing off-hours, or weekends only, but if you see Beanfield all the time, that theory is out! I doubt speedtest.net would really want that type of server, but they might accept it. This test hosting no doubt does cost some money, and require certain resources. . .
Ell... FYI... Start also has their own "junior forum" here on DSLR... »Start Communications |
