[AB] will my beloved ALU modem work on the 50mbps plan?

I like using the ALU on my 25mbps turbo service, and want just a simple modem, as I use a nice router with tomao firmware installed.

Can I use this same modem with the faster 50mbps service telus is going to offer?

If not, what modem option will I have?

Use the firmware that's floating around here with PhyR and unbroken SRA. Turn off QoS on the modem.

You're going to run into dropped packets w/ QoS enabled on the ALU.

Very good advice. I upgraded mine to the modded firmware and turned QoS off.

I gained around .5 to .7 megabits upload and download from these changes.

Why do you turn off QoS? Also what screen is that option on?

I believe Peter said in a different thread the ALU does not have enough memory buffers available when running at 50/10 to keep up with traffic, thus resulting in dropped packets.

It should be under the advance setup screen. If you update the firmware you will have to turn QoS again after it reboots.

Since I have my own router I connected the ALU directly to a notebook and changed my pc's ip to 10.10.10.2/24. You can connect to the »10.10.10.1

I am a little concerned with bricking my ALU by upgrading the firmware (I doubt I can easily get another)

Is telus ever going to release another modem?

I have flashed lots of devices, and risk of brick is minimal, but at least those devices I can replace, the ALU I can't.

»Alcatel Cellpipe 7130 TJ3-65-014E modified TELUS firmware

is that the firmware?

I think the chances of bricking it are pretty slim. Yes that is the firmware. Google the filename to find alternate download links, as the ones in the post no longer work.

Works fine on my setup.
ALU (custom firmware floating around on here) and a Netgear WNDR4000.

I haven't turned off QoS but I don't notice any issues with errors, although DSM may say otherwise. I haven't checked in a while.

Internal TELUS tool. Goes by a few names, but that's one of them.
