Kardinal posted : The CP holiday train stop in Merrickville (pop 2850) had more than a thousand people out for the visit. I saw several vans loaded to the roof with food for the local food banks, and fun was had by all.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality; I forgot my camera so I had to use my phone, and it was pretty windy so hard to stand really still.

I think it's funny that the US holiday train is in Binghampton NY tonight, while the Canadian train rolls into Ottawa (well, Merrickville and Smiths Falls) tomorrow.

They hope to have it back in at least partial service in 2013 but that could be delayed by leda clay in areas where they are rebuilding the track bed and looking to build a new station in the village of Chelsea. It normally ran only until the end of October.

The CP Holiday Train may be pulled by a GE AC4400 but it's still a lot of fun, especially if you get to see it at night. The car with the three lit trees on the top is the one with the stage that opens at each stop. While it would be spectacular to see it pulled by CP2816, it would be a logistics nightmare to keep her supplied with water even with the 2nd tender she pulls.
