Actually, I think you just discovered the basic problem. From looking at the pic, it appears to me that the handle is designed to go into the support bracket so it doesn't flop around. My guess is that it has not been returned to the proper position. Operator error? Don't know. Point being that if the handle is not rigidly held in position, then the wire will break. I would suggest replacing it again and making sure that the handle returns into the bracket when used.
